Arden athlete sprints her way to success!
Arden Anglican School student Scarlett Prowse has great dreams for the future. The Year 6 student’s athletics efforts were acknowledged in March by NSW Combined Independent Schools. Scarlett received a medal recognising her achievement in representing NSW at the School Sport Australia Championships (National Championships) in Queensland. A delighted Scarlett said: “I felt honoured, excited and proud to represent Arden.”
Scarlett’s involvement with athletics started at the Arden school carnivals. Following her success, she has then enjoyed participating in two seasons of Little Athletics where she made it to State level in both seasons. Scarlett also sprint trains twice a week, which she has been doing for the past nine months.
Scarlett recently competed at the Little Athletics State competition in 100 metres and 200 metres on 22nd – 23rd March, 2014 and was a State finalist in both races, achieving a PB in the 200 metres despite injuries.
When asked what she likes about athletics, Scarlett commented: “I like being with other kids who enjoy athletics and I’ve made some great friends. I like being fit and active and enjoy the friendly competition.”
Discussing her dreams, Scarlett shared: “Of course the dream is to be an Olympic sprinter but, one step at a time! So my goal for this year will be to try to get to Nationals again.”
Mr David Watkins, Head of Junior School commented: “Scarlett has shown great commitment to sport in her time at Arden and is proof that dedication pays off. We are very proud of her and wish her continued success.”
