USA Thursday raises funds for Mission

Posted on March 25, 2015

Secondary students organised USA Thursday on Thursday 5th March, 2015 in order to raise funds for the Extra Mile project.  One of the team members, Alana Townley (Year 11), shared:  “USA Thursday was the second mouth-watering Extra Mile fundraiser worthy of food lovers’ dreams.  Students enjoyed homemade brownies, tasty milkshakes, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and only the best hoedown tunes.  A tremendous effort was put in by the Year 11 students traveling on, or supporting, the Mission Tour. Thank you to all the students and staff for satisfying your sugar cravings which enabled us to raise a total of $801 on the day.  This year’s fundraising goal for the extra mile project is $32,000. With $13,000 already raised, high hopes are set for the upcoming premier of Avengers: Age of Ultron movie night which will be held on 23rd April at 6:30pm and the annual Plank campaign.”   This is the eighth year that Arden will send a team of committed Year 11 students and staff for a life changing mission – ‘The Extra Mile Project’, in Cambodia and Vietnam during the June/July school holidays.  Mrs Catherine Bradshaw, 2015 (and also 2014) Mission Coordinator sees the main purpose of the trip as being to “equip and empower the future leaders of our country to become compassionate, responsible and transformational.”  She commented:  “As an educator, I am in a privileged position to impact the next generation for good.  It is my heart’s desire to see these young people grow in their understanding and awareness of the world they live in.  The world is smaller now than it ever was.  We are connected to each other through social networking, internet and other media.  We can see the immediate impact of war, disasters, famine and poverty.  It is in our living rooms and status updates.  The wonderful young people I teach have tremendous capacity to make real and lasting change in their world. And it starts here.”
