Arden community swings the night away

The Arden Swings evening was held on Friday 23rd September, 2016.

An enthusiastic Mrs Philippa Wood, Coordinator of Co-curricular Music at Arden, shared:  “Arden Swings is a wonderful opportunity to bring together the Arden community on a night of jazz music, dancing, games and fundraising.  This evening is a key event for the Arden Jazz Ensemble and Stage Band as our musicians provide the night’s entertainment, as well as fundraising for our China Music Tour in April 2017.  Being the evening’s entertainment is a significant challenge for our jazz musicians as they have to prepare a lot of music to a high standard to present to a paying room full of people.  The students get such a kick out of seeing adults dancing and having fun to the music they are playing.  We hosted an “Arden Swings” in 2013 prior to our inaugural China Music Tour and the night was a huge success for everyone involved.  Many people commented that they’d like us to do a night like this every year!”

Mrs Wood continued:  “The China Music Tour in April 2017 involves 40 students travelling to Guilin, X’ian and Beijing for an 11 day tour.  They will be performing eight concerts during the 11 day tour.  Performance venues will include the tomb of the Terracotta Warriors, on the Great Wall of China as well as exchange concerts with numerous schools in China.”

The night proved a great success.  Arden’s Jazz Ensemble and Stage Band enjoyed providing the entertainment, while a special guest appearance of professional musician and Arden alumni (2008 Leaver) Frances Madden and her band was another highlight.
