Golfer Vidur Subramaniam aims high

Posted on August 24, 2017

While only in Year 5, Vidur Subramaniam dreams of becoming a professional golfer and playing in the PGA Tour.

This dream seems possible when you consider that Vidur placed close fourth in the inaugural USA Kids Australian Open in January, 2017.  Since then Vidur has also won the US Kids Autumn Tour 2017 and has won the D grade Saturday competition at Ryde Parramatta Golf Club a couple of times since being allowed to play 18 hole competition at his home club.

His next challenge will be competing as part of the NSWCIS Primary Golf Team at the NSWPSSA Golf Championships on 6th – 7th September, 2017 in Camden.

Mr Greg Stocken, Upper Primary Teacher reflected:  “Vidur has proved to be an energetic, honest and amiable young man.  Golf is a tough game both mentally and physically.  Vidur is successful because he believes in himself, sets high standards and shows persistence to achieve his goals. He is also very modest and displays good sportsmanship. I wish him the very best in his sporting future.”

When asked for her opinion as to Vidur’s success, his Mum Revathi Venkatraman, shared: “We are proud of what Vidur has achieved so far and this credit solely goes to him for his dedication and hard work, despite limited practice time only during the weekends.  He realises the road ahead will be ever more challenging and he has to stay resilient and keep practising his basics.”

Vidur’s Dad and fellow golfing enthusiast Vijay Subramaniam added:  “It has been a beautiful journey and continues to be.  Seeing Vidur learn and evolve is such a joy.  We are proud of his efforts and achievements, and we keep telling him there is still a long way to go.  Hardwork, dedication, passion and fun has to be a constant.  We’ll support him in whatever possible way we can and see where this takes him.”
