Curriculum

Arden follows secondary school curriculum set by the NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards from Year 7 to Year 12. The curriculum initially allows for a breadth of experience and then for a greater concentration on a student’s passions.

Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8)

In Years 7 and 8, students study the core subjects of:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Visual Arts
  • Music
  • Languages (both French and Chinese in Year 7, then a choice in Year 8)
  • Technology (including textiles, woodwork, graphics technology and food technology)
  • Christian Studies

Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10)

In Years 9 and 10, students study the core subjects of:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Australian History
  • Australian Geography
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Christian Studies

Students also select 2 x 200 hour courses in Year 9 and 10 and an additional 100 hour course in Year 9. Subjects include:

  • Commerce
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama
  • Elective Geography (100 hr)
  • Elective History (100 hr)
  • Food Technology
  • French
  • Information and Software Technology
  • Industrial Technology: Timber
  • Music
  • Physical Activity and Sport Studies
  • Visual Arts

Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12)

In Years 11 and 12, students study preliminary (Year 11) and Higher School Certificate (Year 12) courses and sit the external examinations in these courses at the end of Year 12.

At Arden, English, Mathematics and Christian Studies are compulsory in Year 11 and students must select a total of at least 12 units. English and Christian Studies are compulsory in Year 12 and students can undertake 10 units of study and at least 4 subjects. Students select from the following courses:
