Art

Art at Arden provides for personal expression and enjoyment. Students come to understand that there are as many views of the world as there are people in it, reflected in their environment and culture.

Arden has a specialist Art teacher who moves about the school on a five-ten week rotation. In the Secondary school, Art is an integral part of the creative arts Key Learning Areas and is a compulsory subject in the lower secondary years.

Students experiment with and learn about 2D and 3D forms including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking. Activities are organised to suit the developmental needs, interests and abilities of the children. The use of the kiln in pottery is a favourite.

A 75th anniversary mural was a gift from the students to their school in 1997. It displays a tile made by each child.

Arden co-ordinates the JSHAA Travelling Art Show which tours both city and country schools. A variety of selected students' work from the schools involved come together as one collection to be displayed for a time at each school.

Arden regularly has students whose work has been successful in art and craft competitions.

Children are encouraged to present their work.

A feature of the walls of Arden are the examples of the students' art. Ceramic work is regularly displayed in the library.

Students visit the NSW Art Gallery regularly where they are introduced to the permanent collection, focusing on certain aspects related to their art program and other key learning areas.

Extension Workshops in Art are run for students who display particular talent. These are run after school.
