Arden has, for some time, used many of the new initiatives within the K-6 New English Curriculum
Reading:
The staff have chosen to take the best of the whole language approach and blend it with the more traditional approach via word attack skills. They have found that every child learns in different ways . Often a child who is only exposed to whole language fails and needs to have a more structured approach.
English:
We have a full school approach to spelling with school designed lists using word family rules and word attack skills.
Many students at Arden have a high degree of success in English and in particular with reading. Each year, our students results in the UNSW English Competition show Arden as above average with a number of our students receiving High Distinctions.
Writing:
Students engage in writing genres according to a Departmental scope and sequence. |
