Extra Curricular

Arden has a wide variety of extra curricular activities. They include:

Music Club - Years 5 and 6 voluntary group meeting once a week and preparing for performance
Choir - Year 2, Years 3-6 and Festival Choirs are just a part of the choral tradition at Arden
String Fever - an enthusiastic group of students who meet once a week to prepare for performances throughout the year
Band - essentially a group of brass/woodwind instruments. Students in Years 3-6 can be a part of our band which meets once a week. Tutorials are arranged for students in most brass and woodwind instruments
Music Tutorials - currently tutorials are run in the following: piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, string instruments (Suzuki) and several brass instruments
Computer Skills - during two lunchtimes pre week interested year 6 students participate in a Web Design program. This is intended to extend their already full use of the computer facilities
Sport - a wide range of sporting activities is available for boys and girls in both summer and winter sports. Teams are coached by staff members one afternoon a week and games are arranged with the JSHAA competition on Saturday mornings. From time to time teams compete in the Hills Zone competitions. Selected teams train for athletics, swimming and gymnastics
Extension Workshops - our Director of Studies formulates a program of extension activities for students with specific needs and interests. These usually run after school for a number of weeks and are on a user pay basis. Examples - Escher workshops, woodworking, drama, art, dance
Chess - this is one of our most popular activities. Each Friday in the Library almost 100 students gather to be tutored by our own staff and tutors employed by the school. Selected members compete in the afternoon competition against both Independent and State schools in the area
Outdoor Education - camps are held at various stages by both our own staff and Crusader Union. These camps are linked to the curriculum and involve personal development and responsibility
New Horizons Program - in the last week of Term 4 students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take part in a varied program of extra curricular activities. As part of the week's activities all students participate in a Surf Awareness Certificate course. A personal development course runs each morning and in the afternoon students experience life skill activities in small groups. Experience includes cooking, ballroom dancing, car maintenance, woodwork, craft, sewing, aerobics and drama
