Dear Staff, Parents, Students and Members of the Arden School Community
On 31 March 2021 I wrote to advise you of the retirement of Mr Graham Anderson from his role as Principal of Arden. The purpose of this correspondence is to give you an update on progress, and to clarify some aspects of the process that is being followed since Mr Anderson retired.
The School Council has embarked upon the challenge of finding a new Principal and has appointed Odgers Berndtson, a specialist recruitment firm, to support the Council in this process. Odgers Berndtson will be involved in canvassing the widest possible field of candidates, and to assist in the assessment of candidates against the requirements of the role. Following the search and short listing, we anticipate being able to interview select candidates by the middle of this year. Our goal is to have a commencement date in Term 1, 2022.
Council has also been exploring the availability of an Interim Principal to lead the School whilst the search is taking place. We are pleased to announce that Mr Peter Crawley will commence as Interim Principal at Arden at the start of Term 3.
Peter is a highly experienced retired Principal whose appointments as Principal include Trinity Grammar Melbourne (1993-1998), Knox Grammar Sydney (1999-2003), and St Hilda’s School Queensland (2006-2016). Peter retired from full-time roles in 2016 and has been doing educational consulting work since that time, including holding the role of Interim Principal at The Glennie School Queensland (October 2019-October 2020).
We look forward to welcoming Peter to Arden in Term 3. We are confident that he will lead the School with Godly wisdom, care and significant expertise during this time, and we thank you in advance for your support of Peter’s appointment.
Council would like to emphasise that the decision to appoint an Interim Principal is most definitely not a reflection on Mr Watkins leadership as Acting Principal. Rather it is an opportunity to support the School during this time of change and allow David to continue his important role as Head of Junior School. We would like to acknowledge David’s superb and servant-hearted leadership as Acting Principal both at this time and on other occasions. David will continue as Acting Principal until the commencement of Term 3. We would also like to thank Mrs Jo Graham who has stepped up to assist David during his times as Acting Principal, as well and the whole School Executive Team, the teaching staff and the support staff.
Finally, I want to assure you that the School Council is strongly committed to the recruitment of a truly exceptional Principal who can lead Arden’s future, directing our Christian, Coeducational Vision, Mission and School Values. It is essential we make an appointment with due care and diligence, and that we appropriately and professionally search the broader market. This will take time and I will provide further updates as we make progress in the coming months.
On behalf of the School Council I thank you for your positive support during this time.
Chair of School Council
