A focus on issues of social justice and the Christian response to the needs of others is embedded in many of the subjects studied at Arden.
Community service in the curriculum
Within the school curriculum student involvement in social justice issues and community service formally starts in Year 8, with Geography and Christian Studies students completing the Slum Survivor program. In Year 9 Elective Geography students create their own aid project for poverty stricken communities in Africa, while all Year 9 Christian Studies students are involved in service-based outreach programs in local aged care facilities.
Overseas mission trips
Many of our Year 11 students travel to Vietnam and Cambodia to complete overseas mission work, building on the justice issues and knowledge developed in previous years.
Social justice group
Arden students have initiated a social justice co-curricular group to create awareness of issues. The Student Representative Council, House groups and Prefects arrange a variety of fundraising events to support local, national and global charities as well as responding to immediate needs in our community such as a bushfire appeal.
